This is simply how the language works, there is no arguing.Ībout your other point, alienating a female audience from the game, you might be right. Usually the all-male form is used when talking about a group while both forms are used when addressing a mixed-gender audience. If something is intended for a mixed-gender audience it has to use either the male form or both forms (with the femal one first). And this is what's irritating, there is no reason to shove your agenda in there.ĭo I give a f' if a female magazin or brochure writes in the all-female form? Of course not, because it is intended for an all-female audience. The only reason someone would intentionally write that way is either to provoke or because of some self-righteous agende for political correctness. There is no arguing about this, it is simply as wrong as writing "Gentlemen and ladies". You brain is following the words nicely and all of the sudden it trips over because of a wrong word usage. When you are reading something and all of the sudden the wording becomes female for a mixed-gender group it is simply wrong. In contrast, my native language actually has a separate form for mixed-gender groups, so using a male form implies strictly a male-only group. I don't know what languages you speak, but in German using the male form inplies either an all-male group or a mixed-gender group, while using the femal form implies an exclusively all-female group. Are we not even allowed to talk about this? I don't get it. Most just got angry because apparently I was being "all in their face", like you say. Only a few posters actually responded to that argument, though. I feel like the choice of attire will alienate people for no reason.

But other than that, would it really harm the game to have the female characters wear regular armor? If that were the case, would we see a bunch of players complaining that their outfits aren't scanty enough? I doubt it.

I don't buy the satire argument, since no one could give me a good example of how exactly these characters were satirical, but I will reserve full judgment on that until I've played the game. Further, no one gave me any reasons why there SHOULD be characters like that. Well, there ISN'T any reason why you can't have characters like that in the game, but if you do, you're going to alienate a lot of female players and make others (like me) think your game is immature. But the overwhelming reaction was "It's all in fun! Why can't we have characters like that? It's just a game! Besides, it's all satire, they make fun of the men too!" I was simply pointing out that from the screenshots alone, it looks like the female characters in Two Worlds 2 tend to be wearing the stereotypical "chainmail bikini" attire, something which I felt would alienate a lot of female players. I found a similar, violent reaction to my own posts in this thread, many months ago. It certainly sounds like a case of entitlement to me.

It absolutely was not, and if the people in that town ACTUALLY didn't care, they wouldn't have reacted the way they did. In fact, a better question is why you think this was equivalent to someone yelling in your ear. In fact, it was just like the example you give, effectively switching "Ladies and Gentlemen" to "Gentlemen and Ladies" on the form (technically, switching "gentlemen" to "ladies" since there was only one term listed). Exactly how was the example eleve gave "in your face"? The town simply changed the words on the form. It's only when someone steps up like a self-righteous asshole and wants to guilt-trip everyone that I become irritated. Why should we, it's insignificant, it doesn't matter.

We (as in society) simply accept certain things as part of the language, you will never see men outraged that it's always "Ladies and Gentlemen", not "Gentlemen and Ladies". It's like having someone next to you yelling right in your ear "SEE WHAT WE DID HERE!?! HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT NOW!? HUH, HUH, SEE WHAT IT FEELS LIKE!?". HiPhish: The reason people get upset over that sort of thing is because it's all in your face.
