Unimposing, but well-appointed, Hotel Maestral puts the accent on simple enjoyment. Our 4-star hotel, grown on the tradition of Istrian hospitality, offers modern outlook on the Mediterranean.
Not many shops but plenty places for coffee and drinks. Everywhere is so clean and tidy absolutely no litter. Novigrad, about 10/15 minute walk, is very small but very pretty. Breakfast was the better meal we thought.

On the plus side, we had wine, beer soft drinks etc on tap to help ourselves, and the wine was very drinkable. Dessert was always the same and the hot pudding was usually fruit in a sort of custard.

No one checked room numbers on entry either, so who knows, perhaps people from the adjoining campsite could get a free meal? There was a huge selection of food but the 'hot food' was always cold, with the meat usually chicken or pork plus fish. We had to search around to find tables for 2 or 4 people. It seems the hotel caters for coach trips. Although nothing prepared us for the sheer volume of people in the room, it was like a canteen with lots of tables reserved for say 8/10/12 people. The restaurant staff were exceptionally nice and always had a smile on greeting their customers and were very helpful. It was noticably odourless and we had a better view which meant we didnt have to put on the lights in the day time. We spoke to the lovely Tui Rep Bojan next morning and he sorted a new room for us. Even with a seaview room the view is somewhat restricted due to the concrete structure of the building. Not all the rooms have a balcony and unless a seaside room is booked, one is relegated to the less desirable rooms or views. Strange I could have booked one online later that night.

We had sun on the balcony from approx midday till 2pm then we needed to put the light on the rest of the day when the sun went behind the building?!?!? Went down to request a change of room or even to pay for an upgrade but was told the manager would need to be consulted next day as hotel was full. Had emailed to request a room with afternoon sun on the balcony. On entry we were met with an overpowering smell, which was masking a drains/sewage smell! Went to quickly open the (very) small balcony door to be confronted by an enormous tree, taller than the building, completely blocking any view. It was also the first time in 35 years of travelling that we had to request a change of room. Someone else used the word 'frosty' and I would totally agree. It was the first time we have never had a welcoming smile from Reception staff on check in, nor a "good morning" when passing the desk. We did meet and enjoy the company of many other Europeans though. Stayed here last week of the season with just a handful of other Brits, we were definitely in the minority. And probably see you again.įirst visit to Croatia, loved it just not this hotel. So please take my review as help to get even better. so a bit nervous, like we are something less than others. the table from last two days was without cutlery to eat, the second table (from first two days) had everything but only one chair. our table with name tag: first and second day we had our table, on third dinner we didnt find it anymore and they seated us somewhere else, on lasr day at brekfast was worst. We had to ask one of the staff at dinner, and then we found out we missed one night of music. So what I liked: -room was always clean (great job ladies) -great sea view from room -friendly staff (the best was girl serving drinks, Monika - need to give her special credit, because she is really friendly) -good tasty food -nice wellness -fitness great, lot of equipment Things that need to be better: -in fitness would be great to have some cups and fresh water -at pool its not enough deckchairs when its winter, so we just didnt go on days when there was already ful -its not published enough when its music night and when it starts and other things happening in hotel. I would like to say, that most things were good, but some things still need to be better.
